SAS Problems

Recommended Posts

Morning All,

I've been building my rockets exactly the same way since i started playing (big, expensive and wildly inefficient) and i've been flying them the same way, now this morning I've gone on to get my fill of Kerbal action and it seems i am suddenly unable to manoeuvre the craft using the SAS reticles - please see attached photo - you can see the target reticles appear on the gimbal but the buttons are missing from the left hand side. This is a manned rocket with one pilot on board in a Mk1 command pod.

Can someone please help as I'm concerned its a glitch that means ill have to scrap my career mode and re-install the game.

Many Thanks and Kind Regards

James

I don't see a picture but it sounds like your in career mode and you have a pilot that is brand new.  SAS function availability is determined by pilot level or probe core capabilities.

If you have drone cores unlocked, it seems counter-intuitive, but they're always a good thing to throw on a manned vessel.

The core can maintain SAS functionality, while your weefle newbie pilot still gains xp...plus it can mind the ship for you while you're out running about, or be used for unmanned test flights or rescue missions.

I pretty much never build anything without a drone core.

Also, if the person you put in the command pod is not a pilot, they will not have SAS functionality.

They might be able to punch a few buttons, but they do not have the pilot's experience stabilizing vessels (which is why many players add probe cores as a backup auto-pilot.)

Yes an probe solve this issue if you need an scientist or engine, also nice if pilot is on eva. Also let you use it unmanned for rescue missions.
