I have actually tried to remake that picture you linked us to... however you cannot land on it with other craft from another launch, and no matter how hard you try a perfectly balanced ship with a bridge like that on one side would be impossibru.

ASAS only vectors angle of thrust, but not the thrust itself - making it impossible for the real thing.

I\'ve built a hovering platform that flies at 10km and can launch a craft that will fly off of it. The problem is that when you build the thing, it is balanced one way, and after you launch the child craft it is balanced a completely different way and there is no autopilot yet to fly it and keep it level. You can have enough fuel on board for it to be up there for hours but it\'ll flip over because the balance is all wrong and we don\'t have enough axes of control.

Damn I built the Helicarrier from the Avengers movie and the one from the comic books but I guess I lose this competition...durn.

(Just kidding I\'m not that awesome. Interesting idea tho-bonus points if someone can land a craft on the deck )
