I think the study you're referring to was about SUVs, those all-wheel drive sport utility vehicles. They've become the favorite of the 'soccer mom'. Pickup trucks on the other hand, most of the owners I've ever known use them for what they're meant - hauling stuff, be it work or for sport.

I think it was directly about trucks. I'm not sure, though. Perhaps the study included SUVs as well, and so the data could've been skewed.

Most of the trucks I ever see are empty. Except for a handful, but they don't usually have any loads. I know quite a few people who would like to have a truck, or who do, and they don't haul anything or plan to haul anything. Personal experiences don't necessarily coincide with national tendencies, nor global ones. I guess it depends on who you ask.

I am pretty sure it depends on the area too. If you ask in Texas, you will get different answers than when you ask in California. If you ask in a rural area, you will get different answers than in the city. My personal prediction would be that the old beat up trucks in rural areas are work trucks as they are intended, and that the shiny tricked out ones in suburbia or built up areas rarely carry more than a keg of beer.

I can see that maybe having a market in Australia:

https://www.google.com/search?q=holden+truck&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwim-euq0uXNAhWJVj4KHQMBDtkQ_AUICCgB&biw=1268&bih=646#tbm=isch&q=holden+commodore+truck

Here in the US...Meh...it will be one of those one-off, look-at-me-I'm-special vehicles...

I would have to agree. I bought a thirteen-year-old truck because I wanted to go off-roading, I wanted to have plenty of space to haul gear when we go camping, and I was tired of trying to keep the trunk of the SUV clean during hunting season. Most of the newer trucks I see around town, even in our semi-rural area, look like they are used as glorified sedans.

Yup... Mall-crawlers... :)

There's these also:

12" lift, 22" rims, 35" Swamper Thornbirds.... Diesels with dual-8" stacks...

Cant carry large stuff in the bed, or tow anything, because they are SOOO high off the ground...

THOUSANDS of $$ worth of worthlessness that couldnt get out of its own way in 2" of snow or wet dirt... :P

But, hey, whatever, you know. Their money, their truck. Whatever floats their boat.
