[Solved-]Disabling "per biome" orbital science.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Any ideas on how to make orbital science experiments, like telescope and gravmax, give science for lower and higher orbit only once, and not multiple times depending on which biome you are above, e.g. "lower grasslands orbit"?

I'm going to go ahead and move this to Add-on Development, since essentially what you're asking is how to mod your game to do what you want, and that's the forum that's best populated with the kind of people who could answer your question.

I'd guess it's possible, but am not in front of my KSP computer at the moment and can't easily answer the question definitively.

KSP organizes its science as follows:

  • There's config for the individual science experiment types (e.g. "gravity scan"), which is not specific to any one part
  • Each science instrument has config that indicates which science experiment type it generates (e.g. "the gravioli detector generates a 'gravity scan' result").

I believe (but don't know, and can't verify until I get in front of a KSP computer) that what you want should be doable by tweaking the config for the science experiment type.  You won't be able to do it by tweaking the config for the gravioli detector itself, so don't bother.

What I don't know is whether you can do what you want with ModuleManager, or whether it would require actually editing the config file in KSP itself.

Hopefully somebody here more knowledgeable than me (and/or who's in front of a computer with KSP and can look at the files) can chime in.

More biomes = more science to do and gain over a body, which is a good thing in career mode. Why would you want it to only be a single biome?

I assume it would be because he wants to make things more challenging.  :)

Thank you, I got it working!

This is probably a related question, but what bit values do you use for "biomeMask" and how does that correspond with the Results messages?  In another thread I found, someone said that the "situationMask" values also apply to biomeMask, but just looking at the Crew Report definintion in the ScienceDefs, this doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm trying to do the same thing as the OP foe one type of new experiment (a Probe Report, with a very low science base value of 1, but a high cap) I've made, making it non-biome specific when in space or on the surface.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
