Stuck Kerbal problem

Recommended Posts

I took my science lander up to the tourist bus and sent my scientist over with a pile of data.  I grabbed the scientist in the first seat to send back--only later realizing he was a rescue that hasn't been back to Kerbin yet.

I land and send him out--nope, he gets stuck in the doorway.  Nothing worked, I had to Alt-F4.

Known bug, random, or shouldn't I have sent down a new rescue?

Getting stuck in the doorway would not have anything to do with the Kerbal. The only way I could see that happening is if other parts of the vessel were too close to the door, and he/she got caught on those. Is that what you're talking about?

By "stuck in the doorway", do you mean that he was on EVA, and he tried to Board a capsule, and the Board command only half worked -- so he ended up still outside the capsule, but you could not access him to make him move or do anything?

If that's it, then it is very similar to a bug I already reported: http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/10007

My error only happened immediately after launch. But another user had the same issue under different circumstances.

The problem happened on the way out, not the way in.

The rocket had previously been used, the previous occupant had EVAed IIRC 7 times.

After the Alt-F4 the reload put me on descent towards the landing so I tried it again to see what would happen--and it worked normally.  One-time glitch, not a permanent problem.

Hmmm. Did you end up with a kerbal outside the capsule that you couldn't control? Or did things just lock up?

I ended up with a Kerbal that was visually outside the capsule.  The game was still responsive, it just wouldn't actually do anything.  There was a ladder below him that wouldn't extend, there was a surface scanner above him that wouldn't scan, I even tried lighting the engines and they didn't light (I have a core containing a lander can, mono-propellant, a bunch of science, a reaction wheel, batteries and a docking port, with 4 tanks with rockets around it--short and squat to minimize tipping.)  I also couldn't go to the space center.

Interesting. Yes, that sounds like the same bug, but from the other direction. So it can happen both on boarding and EVA.

What seems to happen is that some kind of error message (exception) gets generated in the middle of the act of boarding or EVAing. In my case, it seemed to have something to do with heat -- the error happened after the capsule got warm. But the error mistakenly aborts the boarding/EVA in the middle.

It's being a real pain.  Same rocket, same Kerbal, a new load of fuel.  It does the same thing.  (Note, though, that it's worked successfully 3 times.)  Same thing.  Alt-F4, grab the rocket, put it down with the translatron as it's quite low already.  Same thing, but this time my landing spot was bad and I was sliding.  I was going to see if I could safely get close enough to the ground for a surface sample but I was stuck again.  Reload, I'm a hair slow, boom (the previous persistent save was from just before MechJeb lit the landing rockets.)  Time to revert.  This time I pick a different biome, it works normally.  And then it gets stuck again on the next hop.

Note that I didn't have any problem with exactly the same rocket on Minmus.

I ran into a similar if not the same bug when I tried to board the ship and Jeb stayed outside. Apparently he was in because I could control it but Jeb was still outside and I couldn't switch to him for some reason. I just went back to the space center and went to the tracking station and clicked fly on the glitched spacecraft and when I got there Jeb was in the command pod.

Hope this helps.

It's not the same because when it happens to me I can't go to the space center.  Alt-F4 is the only option.
