Landing gear is screwed up

Recommended Posts

I don't even touch the controls and the plane veers all over the place, the landing gear is perfectly aligned, I have steering and automatic friction disabled, I even put struts between the gears but I cannot even with the smallest planes keep the aircraft on the runway I beleive this is a bug

edit: letting all my planes just sit on the runway has resulted in the same thing, the vehicle immediately turns hard to the right, without me even touching the controls, everything is perfectly symmetrical

This is a known issue in Unity 5 which we hope to be fixed by the 1.2 patch.  Because it is in Unity, it affects all PC and Console versions.

Oh thank god it's being worked on, it is oh so annoying

It is being worked on. But it needs the updated version of Unity 5 that will come with 1.2. And I don't expect 1.2 to come anytime soon.

Others have already pointed out that there are currently actual bugs with landing gear, but I wanted to highlight the following:

Landing gear are likely to become 'blocked' if any other parts are touching the wheels, or even get near to them. Struts count as parts and have this effect too.

You can check this by showing the part menu on the gear (PC = rightclick, no idea how to do it on consoles), you will see a line at the top that says 'Gear blocked: Yes'. If it says Yes for even one of the gear, then the craft will skid and slide like crazy. So make sure the wheels have plenty visible space away from other parts. It won't take away the buggy sliding mentioned by others, but it will be a whole lot less.

I wouldn't expect it to be all that long now, but I think the devs are still hoping 5.4 comes out of beta.

I remember seeing what you describe during pre-release, a player had set the friction to zero and the gear was like ice skates, heavy planes would just rotate on the spot.

Have you tried increasing the friction?
