Welcome to the forums!

However, for this challenge, what exactly do you mean by land rover? Something you can land on the moon and rove around there? Or simply something you can drive around on kerbin. If it is the latter, you can see a number of threads around here for similar things such as the kerbal land speed challenge.

When you are posting challenges please have these three elements:

1) A specific and complete definition of what the challenge is

2) Specific criteria for completion / criteria for who is winning (eg speed, number of miles traversed without crashing)

3) Evidence needed (Video, screenshots, trusting their word)

This is not to dissuade you from posting here, because we really do want everybody who wishes to come! Simply it is a lot easier to complete a challenge if we know exactly what we need to do.

I present my totally stock rover,

My design is very safe as the lack of engines means that the rover can cut off power instantly. Also the rcs thrusters in front can be used as brakes.

Given this statement, something you might not know. If you hit \'x\' it instantly cuts off all liquid fuel engines.

Cheers!

Excalibur that jeep is insane, it\'s going to be hilarious to see a Kerbal standing next to that thing.

Thanks man. :)

To be honest it\'s rather flawed. Needed a break from other KSP duties and mis-read the title of this post so actually thought the poster meant a Land Rover (i.e. the quintessential off-road vehicle). So I threw it together in about forty minutes. Hence why it tends to spontaneously fall apart/explode, the front wheels collide with the body during steering (I had to beef up the wheels otherwise it looked rather lame) and it\'s top speed isn\'t exactly supersonic. That last screenshot is at Vmax.

It was inspired by the following tank, which in my opinion is a far more superior vehicle.

Still - couldn\'t resist trying something similar myself, it\'s much easier than you\'d think.

It took me a few attempts to find an optimum rotational speed for the drive rotatrons, the default 20 was far too low. 200 worked but still too slow; I next set it to 1000 which caused instant hilarity. It actually did a standing backflip before every single one of its parts exploded in unison. :)

400 seems to work for now.

Are you able to use the jets in the back to fly it? Then it would be completely kerbal! Now I think I need to revamp my tanks now.

What .cfg edits did you use?

I should have made it more clear - that battle tank isn\'t mine sadly. :(

I\'m not sure who posted it - I haven\'t searched the forums to see if the YouTube username matches a forum member\'s.

I imagine that whoever created it used similar .cfg edits to myself regarding the rotatron. Probably made one that rotates between 200-500 for the wheels and I imagine the turret one is stock.

I\'ve gotta say \'scale model\' recreations like this add a whole new dimension to the game and I\'ll have to investigate them more in the near future!

Aw mang.

Someone, somewhere created that tank... they must be found.

Maybe with the new explosion coding in .16, complex things like this won\'t completely explode it just one shot.

someone in the challenges made the thing. i think the thread is called \'realistic ground vehicles\' or something like that.

That\'s an awesome truck dude. What\'s her top whack? I think I may go and attempt a sports car, see what speed I can get out of this kind of design. :)

EDIT: As a suggestion, you could link front and rear steering together by flipping the rear hinges using and group them with the front hinges in the construction UI. This would remove the need to adjust them separately.

I\'m afraid my design isn\'t entirely stock... it just wouldn\'t have been possible without mods!

Anyway I present the \'Defender TDI\'. ;)

Legendary thread response.

I\'ve been thinking of using rotatrons for this kinda thing before, (dont have novapunch at the mo which is where I assume you have those big RCS tanks eerr I mean wheels from) but figured they\'d be too slow. Are you just editing the Parts/CFG files to get the speed up?

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
