Stock (scientific) Camera

Recommended Posts

Squad already made a camera part for the asteroid day mod, but it was really just for science in general and you couldn't see anything. Maybe squad could add a camera that has a gui window like the orbital scanner. One part. It would be like the infared camera part. A camera like on Curiosity or Voyager or any other probe, for that lack of kerbals feeling. You'd get science the same way.

Stoney3K makes a good point, with contracts to photograph things like eeloo or a certain biome, but I don't know about easter eggs. There could be a screenshot button on the gui

I'd be in favor of having a science camera or telescope that can also make cool pictures which you can share with your fellow players.

It can also open up mission opportunities, like 'take a photo of easter egg X' or taking a picture of a celestial body from a specific point in space.

I did this with some mods awhile back.  No idea which ones.  Ended up being amazingly cool, taking pictures of Jool from Kerbin orbit etc.  Sending probes out to photograph things would be awesome.

I believe that mod was the Tarsier Space telescope mod (or something on those lines).

Anyway, I would LOVE to see a camera experiment like this incorporated into KSP.

I would also like to have different variants that range from requiring film to be returned (in film buckets) to digitally sending back scientific images of Jool and beyond.

Plus, if we were to go for the various versions, we could even have a science return pod that you can store information in for return (think like Stardust mission capsules, or Hayabusa (store ore samples)).

At that point it would be more of a mod than something the devs are likely to add. The more minimal the better.

Space telescopes are a big thing in real life so it doesn't make sense that we don't have any sort of parts related to them.

I'd love to be able to put up my own "Hubble" and take really zoomed in shots of the Kerbal universe.

That said, without making the distant object enhancement mod stock, there won't be much to see.

Yes, please. Not only for Kerbol system objects but also for exoplanet hunting, observation of pulsars, supernovae, nebulae, clusters and galaxies. Think about how many easter eggs they could hide in the skybox with a discovery mechanic like this.

Could also be a great tool for teaching people what's also out there.
