The game doesn't open

I'm running KSP on Ubuntu(Linux) via Steam. The game used to work perfectly until yesterday, but today the game won't open. When I try to run the game, it shows a black screen for a few seconds and then goes back to the Steam overlay. I tried completely reinstalling the game, and it didn't work either.

Have you tried reinstalling Steam then the game?

If that doesn't work, go into where KSP can be found then run the ksp.exe

If that doesn't work, make sure everything is updated (drivers, display, etc) and run troubleshooter on it to see if it works, run each and every option to see if it works, possibly reboot a couple of times, or go to a previous restore point to make sure everything works. Or run a scan for viruses and hijackers using mbam & Avast! free

If THAT doesn't work, I'm out of ideas and I wouldn't suggest to you to reinstall your computer or throw it out of the window. They're very dangerous options.

So I haven't reinstalled Steam, and I doubt it would help me as I deleted all KSP files from my computer by hand and even the new KSP.exe (or in this case, its Linux alternative) doesn't work. All my drivers and stuff should be up to date, I updated them yesterday. Everything else also works as usual. But well, I've managed to play the game via a Windows emulator.

Hi @Reppuli92, Are you using a Nvidia or AMD graphics card?

Your symptom sounds like the graphics driver is not loaded, can you check which driver you are using please.

(Sorry, i just noticed this answer)

I have NVidia GeForce 970, which is working fine with my other games and afer noticing this bug I updated all my driver software. So I think it's not related to my gpu.

Okay, we'll need some more info as it should just work, when you start KSp it makes a new KSP.log in the Kerbal Space Program folder and a Player.log in /home/username/.config/unity3d/Squad/Kerbal Space Program

I just tried to launch the game again for the files. And, just as suddenly as when the game started not working, it now works again normally. I tried playing the game and everything is as usual. Strange... Both times I shouldn't have updated anything. Well, I suppose it's a good thing haha
