Still the scariest thing to me

The thing that keeps scaring me the most is when I go to reload a page in my profile or something and it'll tell me I don't have permission to access it, and I end up panicking I've been banned.

Then a second later I realize, it logged me out. That's when I let out a sigh of relief as I know I can forum for another day.

Anyone else in this boat occasionally?

I think the forum software limits you to two devices when staying logged in. I use two PCs regularly for forum stuff and occasionally a third one, if I use the third one then one of the others will need to be logged in again next time I use it. Are you by chance using the forums on more than two devices?

For the record, banning a person does not prevent them from logging in. :)

Can semi confirm, if I log in on my phone at work, i have to re-log in on my desktop when i get home and vice versa.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Good to know.

Then bans prevent posts? Never been banned from this forum software (and I hope that I never will be!).

As I understand it a ban prevents posts and PMs, but you can still follow threads and users. That's for a regular temporary ban, might be different for a permaban (those are very infrequent anyway).

Ah ok, that's at least a very nice solution. Prevents any additional problems whilst allowing them to view the community.

I don't think I've ever received a temporary ban... I've always had occasional infractions but that's one I do not recall. Ah well, probably for the best I don't.

When I had the temporary permaban a year ago, vBulletin said that I couldn't access anything at all.

IPS works a bit differently in that regard.

Under the current software we can restrict posting privileges without resorting to an outright ban. An outright ban will still result in inability to access the forum.

This is called auto-log-out and it happens for me also when I stay logged in for the whole day.

It does happen to me sometime.

And when I'm very tired(as in: too tired to have (decent) reasoning) and I try to go in some moderator-only parts of the forum, I think something like: "oh my god! They fired me and didn't tell me yet!!!!"

And a few seconds later, I realize I'm just not logged in and I go to bed as I realize how tired I am.

If they modded me, I'd likely do the same thing.
