Rocket not straight on launch pad

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I need your help. I started a new career and I have an issue with a simple rocket.

I can't get it to do a proper gravity turn. I tried a lot of changes but no success.

I just observed something weird with my rocket. she is not standing straight on the launch pad whereas it's supposed to be perfectly symetric...

Any ideas? Here is the .craft.

Thanks in advance.

I loaded the .craft file and it seems fine to me, though it does tend to flip as the fuel drains. On the pad though it's perfectly upright, both visually and on the navball.

Frequently pics of what's happening in your game are more useful than a .craft file, as many of us won't go through the work to load it. I did this time because I'm bored :)

Thanks very much for taking the time to load it. Here is a screen of the rocket on the pad for me...
It's clearly not straight. I think I'll try to start a new career and see if I still get this :(

The navball clearly shows it is not straight. Have you unlocked the Launch Clamps yet? If not, try to unlock it and see what happens when you add launch clamps.

No I don't have yet the clamps. I'm just at the start of the career. It's weird that it's straight for 5thHorseman and not for me.
I have a few mods installed, but I don't see one that could affect the rocket directly... especially with standard parts.

Can you give me a modlist?

I'm not sure if I'm imagining things but... both yaw and pitch controls at the bottom left look like they're trimmed (press alt-X to cancel all trim).

That shouldn't happen off the launchpad, but although unlikely it doesn't seem utterly impossible for a mod to be doing this to your controls.

One other thing to try: throttle down and press spacebar to activate the engines, then see what KER tells you on the "Thrust Offest Angle" and torque lines. It should be zero for a truly symmetrical ship off the launchpad (though admittedly, I don't know if three-way symmetry is guaranteed to be perfectly symmetrical in all cases).

Ok thanks for the ideas. I'll try.

On my side I loaded the ship in a new sandbox game (with the same mods) here is what I get:

Straight on the launchpad:

FF183F4D17CBA0336BBAE70A28AB35573E31410A

In orbit after a pretty smooth gravity turn

717F67E87D734D54D89291496A0D5D6D71697216

I'll look into the trim in my other game. Otherwise I'll just start a new career it was only my second rocket so I won't loose too much time.

Anyway, I'll try Plusck suggestions, I'm curious to know what is the problem!

No, it looks like I was imagining things. All three roll, pitch and yaw sliders look to be in exactly the same position in both screenshots, irrespective of whether the ship is straight or not.

So I have no idea why your career save is off but sandbox (with no change in installed mods) isn't.

I upgraded the launch pad to the next level in my career and it now works correctly. The rocket is standing straight.

Colour me stupid. I didn't even notice that in the screenies.
