Which folder do I delete in order to uninstall kerbal for windows?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I've made up my mind. I am going to update 1.1.3,even if it does have a few bugs. I already know how to move my saves folder somewhere different, but I do not know which folder I delete to uninstall the original game. I have KSP for windows downloaded from the site. I have not gotten the newest version yet, so I have fewer folders to look at for uninstalling.

Thanks! :)

C:\Program Files\KSP_win

Unless you installed it somewhere else.  It's a good idea to keep your original downloaded .zip file or installer so you can revert to a previous version if you want to.  Rather than uninstall you can just rename the folder instead, eg; C:\Program Files\KSP_old, or something.  That way you can have multiple installs of the same or different versions.  Squad have repeatedly said they're fine with that.

For people who downloaded from Steam instead of the KSP store the folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KSP_win.  You may similarly move or copy this folder for multiple versions/installs - Steam will only maintain the one within its folder.

ok thank you! just to be absolutely sure, I just right click this folder, and hit move to recycling bin right?

I edited my original answer but, yes, if you want to completely uninstall that version then just delete that folder.  Everything is contained within it, except your original download.

what is my original download? will this effect me getting 1.1.3? I wanna "destroy" 1.0.0,so that it has no chance of messing up 1.1.3 or my computer. I've already moved my saved folder to the desktop to preserve my game.

Edit: do I delete the folder ksp-win-1-1-0, or the ksp_win folder? ksp_win is inside of ksp-win-1-1-0.

If you were running it from "Program Files", I don't know where it was keeping its save files, which might be a problem.  usually it keeps them in the same folder but when installed globally I don't know.

KSP doesn't need to be 'installed' really -- its one of those programs which will run just as happily inside "My Documents" or a flash drive as "Program Files".

You can just delete the topmost folder that says "ksp" in the name. It will delete everything inside.

Did you buy from Steam or the KSP store?

If you bought from the KSP store, you just sign in to the store and download the latest version (not the 'installer') for free, then extract it to wherever you want. Make a shortcut from the executable you want (32/64bit) and away you go. no need to delete the old version is long as it's in a completely separate folder.

If Steam, then just move/delete the KSP folder from the Steam folder (as posted above)and have Steam install the latest and greatest.

I have multiple old store versions on my PC, ready to play if I want.

In exactly the same place - in my case C:\Program Files\KSP_win\saves

KSP is a well-behaved application that doesn't sprinkle files all over the folder structure.

Interesting.  The point of the c:\users\user\application data\...  is so users don't have to write to c:\program files\, though.  Good reasons not to do that, and potential problems if they can't.
