Are there conditions for using the test button?

Recommended Posts

After all my contract conditions are met, i remain unable to use the "Run test" button and thus completing the contract.

Contract and conditions: Test Heat Shield (1.25m) in flight over Kerbal.

Kerbin

Flying

altitude : 24.000m to 29.000m

speed : 1.000m/s to 1.350m/s

Its a fairly easy mission right at the beginning. So if it was bugged i think i would have found a mention in some forum.

Do i miss a science part to be able to test it?

Work the second time around. hmm thanks anyway. wont be my last thread = )

Two comments:

1. These seemingly easy early career missions can actually be quite challenging, as the altitude / velocity parameters they setup can be difficult to hit (e.g., go between 210 and 510 m/s at between 30km and 34km . . . later in the game, when you've unlocked lots more parts, not a problem, but when you are using the early game crude implements can be tricky).

2. More than once, I have hit the space bar _while_ SEEING that all conditions ARE green, and thinking, "Okay that will get it done." and had it not get done. I reckon it was a simple matter of me being close to the margin for the test condition and by the time my space bar type actually processed into the game I had stepped 0.001 ms/ or m outside the fricking margin.

These tests would be more fun if the margins were more fuzzy and you got more reward for being closer to the middle of the margins, but could nonetheless finish them without the grindy repetitiousness.

ADDIT: and one more thing:

3. Even if you want to play "pure vanilla," there is one mod that I think you should consider getting: Kerbal Engineer Redux. It really should be part of the vanilla game by now as the data it provides is frankly essential to mastery of flight. Playing without it now feels like I'm trying to drive a semi through Boston with blinders on.

Some contracts require you to right click a part and select "test," and others require you to activate the part by staging.  Are you sure you're trying the right option?

If all else fails and you think you've accomplished it, you can manually set the contract to complete with the alt-F12 menu.

A picture here would be worth a thousand words. At the point you would click "run test," instead hit F1. Go into your \<ksp directory>\screenshots\ folder and find the newest picture. Upload it to imgur.com or somewhere else, and link to it here.

I bet within moments of seeing that picture, someone can tell you what you are doing wrong or if the game has a bug.
