[SOLVED] trouble getting an IVA so how do I add a Hatch?

So I thought having made a simple single kerbal inline passenger module, that making a double with an airlock wouldn't be that hard.

Of course I was quite mistaken in that fact. fortunately the tutorials on here and other similarly questioned threads have provided me with many of the answers, like how I get the kerbals to hand off the module like a bat whilst they find the door. and I successfully put the airlock box collider inside my ladder box collider with both just brushing against the original model mesh. I found out the hard way about need to move the points of original for each of those box collider meshes to the actual location I wanted the airlock to be. However it was made easier to understand why this was going wrong from the other modders how have gone before.

Now I haven't quite go the hang of IVA's for the twin crew cabin with airlock model I am building I though I'd just sort of short cut it. I followed the IVA tutorial in the vast compiled build guide (the 0.17 version tutorial as it better explained that I need a separate mesh thing and to put my kerbal seats on layer 16). I haven't modelled an IVA properly for the twin cabin module so I though I'd just reuse the exterior models mesh on a new object. of course I couldn't cheat like that and now amount of jiggery pokery has made a little portrait view of a kerbal show up in the bottom corner.

So how to get my kerbals out without using the portrait 'View' and 'EVA' buttons, use the hatch I thought. It seems though that despite having added the Airlock collider and that it works as it should (I have tested that much on the launch pad, I can get in but not out) their is no 'Hatch' as you would see on a command pod so I currently cannot get my kerbals out of the airlock again.

How do I add a functioning 'Hatch' that I can interact with a mouse-over and left click, just like a command pod?

HI bit lost with your description but, it sounds to me that you have not set the layer of the hatch possibly or clicked is trigger in the  mesh collider inspector view . The hatch collider itself needs to be on the part triggers layer  which is layer 21. Then when you mouse over the collider it should show the crew hatch message.

so do i need another collider/mesh just for the hatch.

here is the model so far: comprising three colliders at the minute:

mk1-7cCrewModule - main model collider (untagged on default layer)

Grips - the hatch ladder collider (tagged as ladder on Layer21)

Hatch - the airlock collider (tagged as Airlock on layer 21)

The current result is as in this images where my kerbal can get on the ladder, enter the module where upon the only way to get him back out is to transfer to the command pod and exit there.

But once inside no potriat spawns (i understand this is because i haven setup the interior model and meshes correctly. The issue i there is no 'crew hatch' if i mouse-over the hatch, so i cannot extract kerbals from the part directly.

Here's a screen shot, you need the airlock collider  in this case a capsule, to have  an Airlock tag, it needs to be on Part triggers layer 21, and you need to set mesh collider is trigger checkbox, all can be seen here, to add both layers and tags click the little arrow in the selection element
