i think having only ksc as a control center makes the game way more fun. Geo sync comm network becomes meaningful

Disclaimer: I haven't played 1.2 yet, my experience is based on Remote Tech.

A geostationary comm network isn't meaningful with a single control point either, as it's not a requirement to always have the same sat connect to KSC. You could just as well have a equilateral triangle of sats that can see each other at any altitude - one of them will always have line of sight to KSC.

Thats what my testing playthrough looked like.   I used 4, it worked fine with only KSC as a DSN.

The only reason I like geostationary sats in RemoteTech is so that I'll always know where they are for antenna aiming purposes. Stock Comm doesn't care about that, so there's no point.

Also, because of this you can choose an altitude that fits with the antenna ranges you want between Kerbin and elsewhere instead of needing to use the geostationary altitude

Hard mode player here... There are other ground stations enabled by default in Hard. The only difference is that they can't communicate over the horizon like in the easier modes.
