Stock Community Bases for 0.16

Welcome to the community base thread for stock craft!

A new version, and a new set of bases for all!

I've made a few changes to the rules to try and make things more fun and limit the delays between turns, please take a look at them and make sure you're clear on them. I think it will help overall, but please suggest changes if there\'s anything that would be fairer without being a nightmare to keep track of!

*Bumped flights

If you are defining a new landing site on your turn, after landing I recommend that you submit it as a place name to the Kerbin Geographic Society thread over in General Discussion.

1. All flights must be flown with the latest KSP build, Presently KSP 0.16, no mods

2. All flights must be requested in advance, to be added to the upcoming flight List. You need to specify which base you are flying to(or where you plan to make a new base), if you are moving a craft from one base to anther please specify where it is getting moved from and to. No bookings will be taken with out this, this allows all to plan if they are adding new bases or not.

3. After completing your turn, you must send a message to the next person on the list, this is to reduce the delay between turns.

4. At the end of your flight please post your persistent.sfs file as well a picture of the base.

5. If you do not post a new persistent file within 48 hours, you get bumped down one spot on the list. If you do this twice, you are removed from the list and must request a new entry.

6. If you screw up, you can try again in the same turn, but cannot get an extension on the 48 hours. If you\'re unable to fly and notify me ahead of the 48 hours it will help keep things moving along for everyone else, but rule 5\'s 'two reschedules deletes you from the list' will still apply.

8. Have Fun!

9. One must not speak of Rule 7

Previous pilot of the Minmus Lander M2-4 checking in for a flight to the Mun, I havent gotten my head pretty good around these new fat rockets, so I figure I\'ll just get to the Mun this time..

On a side note, may I name the Mun base 'Buran' station? After the russian space shuttle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buran_(spacecraft)

Edit:

can anyone explain it to me?

Basically you take the previous\' pilot\'s posted persistent.sfs file, do your flight, and upload it for the next pilot. When it\'s your turn, of course.

I\'ll make the maiden flight to Minmus. I\'m not sure how this thing works (never participated in community base before), can anyone explain it to me?

I\'ll launch a mission on a clean save, and land somewhere on the Mun (haven\'t decided yet), establishing a 'base' there. Once I\'ve done so, I\'ll put up a post with a screenshot or two and attach the save file with my mission waiting on the moon, then ping Candre, who\'ll be next.

Candre will download my save and fly his mission to the Mun, trying to land near me (closer is better, but sometimes lag forces people out past 200m). Once he\'s succeeded, he\'ll post the save with both missions, and ping you. You\'ll then do the same, flying your mission to a location of your choosing on Minmus and establishing the first Minmus base, since neither of us are heading there before you. Once you\'ve landed, post it here with the attached save (with all three flights) and ping whomever signs up next on the list. That person then has the option to fly to either the base on the Mun with Candre and myself, to your base on Minmus, or to a new base on Kerbin.

Check out the previous thread for 0.15.2 as a really good example.

Over time we\'ll assemble quite the collection of crafts at each base that people start landing at; it\'s a neat way to see other people\'s designs in practice.

You can ask me to name the Mun base Buran, since I\'m heading there first, but I might name it something else. Haven\'t decided yet. ;-)

Anyway, it\'s getting late, and my first attempt toppled over due to unexpectedly rough terrain (hazards of landing on the dark side of the Mun). I\'ll try again tomorrow and put up the first flight.

Am I allowed to land several ships during my turn (since it only takes me 30 minutes to get it there)?

An interesting idea, but for the moment I think we will stick with one ship only, keeps it nice and simple, maybe we will expand the amount up at a later time.

I would like to establish a base on Kerbin. Don\'t have a good spot yet - KSC-2 again would probably be frowned upon, but expect a similar range (~800-1000km from KSC).

I\'d be interested in a base at the exact north or south pole of Kerbin. Much more challenging to return to from other bodies, which makes it way more fun! As an added bonus, it\'s almost completely flat, making it very easy to land aircraft there.

Great idea. Just made a test flight to the south polar cap: my aircraft is able to cross the ocean and make landfall a little short of the pole (855km traveled). With some modifications, I will get that final hundred kilometers out of it for sure.

Uh... I would like to change my destination from the Mun to...... well, Kerbin Orbit.

I would like to get something like this bad boy up in the sky: (I would just replace the additional crewpod with a fuel tank to keep it stock)

My new 'Interkerbinal Space Station', orbiting at ~85km above Kerbin:

Stock parts, except additional 'crewpod' from Damned Aerospace.

Edit: The first rendezvous of this station is here! http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=16964.0

Until docking is in and manageable, I think we should try and keep this to bases only, it would get quite messy trying to coordinated space stations, but I am happy for you guys to try and come up with some rules....

Have a bit of a chat amongst your selves and see what you come up with in regards to how this would work, and if most seem happy we can try it.

Well, i didn\'t intend to make it a space base, more of single pit-stop or mid-destination for flights. If we could get an agreement that nobody will clog up the station, I think there wouldn\'t be any problems. Eh-?

Also, I don\'t think there\'s much to manage - just label all orbiting vessels 'orbiting', and it\'s done. I never understood why public saves must have mass-landed bases anyway. Maybe someone just wants to put up an orbiter around minmus?

So what\'s the policy on space trash? I\'m sure many designs will leave spent stages in perpetual orbit?

I know on one of the old bases space trashed wasn\'t banned because it was neat to see how each person got to the base. I personally don\'t mind but if you can have it so they get sent out to Kerbol orbit.

I agree with Stogas though, we should be able to put up orbiting stuff plus I kinda want to put up a Mun satellite that has an 8 km orbit over one (or two?) of the bases.
