Transfering files from laptop to PC

Hello! As not many of you peeps know, my Ethernet connection of my PC does not work, for some reason. Luckily the PC is the only thing that has no Internet connection. So im trying to find out a way to still download mods and upload craft files and stuff. I have a craptop where i can download and upload my files from. So how do i transfer? Well, i do have an ancient artifact that could be my donkey!

Yes, you got that right! I could use an USB thing, but i cant seem to find one for myself.

So i need to some tests before i can do this:

Test 1: Transfer files from PC to craptop and upload it on the internet. I have 2 files, a screenshot from KSP and a video that destroys Moon Hoaxers theories (Van Allen Belt). I need to put those files in my DVD and transfer it to my craptop, if i do that, i completed the task.

Test 2: Transfer files from Craptop to PC. I need to find a mod and install it to my KSP on PC.

What's wrong with the Ethernet on your PC? Getting that fixed is going to be far better use of your time than trying to pass files, especially with a DVD. A USB wireless or Ethernet adapter can be gotten for less than $30. If your current card is really kaput.

A new PCI ethernet card will likely cost you less than a decent-capacity USB stick these days.

If it were me I'd be trying a live linux distro to verify that the onboard ethernet really is broken, and not a driver issue, but then if it were me and I were transferring files as you describe, I'd probably take the hard disk out of the laptop, put it in a USB caddy, and transfer it that way.

The only upside of using CD/DVD's to transfer files is you are making a backup of your files as you go, so I suppose there is that.

A DVD is the only thing i have in house, i wont buy any new crap. I also do not need to transfer huge files to my PC. 4,8GB is more than enough to send mods to my PC.

There is something wrong with the cable, i have tried multiple cables and it still does not work.

Even an 8GB USB stick would be faster and they cost next to nothing. Fascinating to have a computer without internet these days.

But i dont want to buy anything, i have no idea where, and i dont have the time too. And my PC is supposed to have internet, but it is not working. Its not permanent!

Screw it im just asking for a USB my friend could have thousands of those.

you got any bluetooth or wifi dongles?

one time, in the 90s, i used a serial cable. it was dreadfully slow. its amazing how long it took to backup a 1 gig drive.

I remember having to do this with Norton Commander a few times back in the day too.  Fortunately we were copying stuff in the orders of tens of MB.  Even so, it still took a while.

Maybe?

with bluetooth you can pair 2 comps and share files (i believe it requires setting up virtual com ports but i dont remember too well), wifi can be configured in ad-hoc mode. both will allow sharing of files though windows file sharing. its been many years since i set something like that up but i do know its possible.

you can also connect 2 ethernet ports with a crossover cable. that is if you have working ethernet ports.

If none of several cables doesn't work chances are it's not the cable or all the cables are broken.

Try to ping 127.0.0.1 ... if that doesn't work it's the configuration of your network card (driver/low level protocol) or the network interface itself is broken. In the former case i'd check the config of the interface, In the latter case, i'd buy new pci network card as suggested. They are cheap.

But i'm on Linux, checking a config is fingersnip ...

Edit .. oh, or your router has a problem with the pc ... dns ... ?

Traffic to 127.0.0.1 will only use the loopback interface. It could help in the (unlikely) case that you have a problem with your TCP/IP stack. But it won't exercise the hardware, driver or configuration of your external interface.
