Slim Shuttle as a Rescue Mission?

Recommended Posts

I doubt the stock slim shuttle has the capabilities to go to the Mun, let alone land and return (winged crafts have this obvious flaw where they need air to function properly).

I'm assuming you are relatively new to KSP as this seems to be an early Mun mission, so I suggest you forget about shuttles for a while and stick to regular rockets (you'll find out that shuttle are about the most difficult thing to design and fly in KSP).

Now, if you need help improving your current Munar rocket design to rescue your stranded Kerbals, then post a picture and we'll be happy to help.

Edit: also I'm summoning mods to move this to Gameplay Questions and Tutorials which is appropriate for this kind of issues.

So I made a munar mission, and I crashed. soooo, I thought use the "slim shuttle" craft for rescuing the kerbals in mun.

Could I? or, it wouldn't reach?

The stock slim shuttle will not make it to munar orbit. It has enough fuel to make orbit around kerbin and then perform a rendezvous and de-orbit manuever, but that's about all.

Kerbin direct to the Munar surface and back requires a lot of delta V,  and obviously no atmosphere for wings.  So it's much easier for big staged rocket.

This is my highest delta V spaceplane design, a couple of mk1 crew cabins in the cargo bay and it might just about do it?
