SSTO but Nixon's requirement?

Aside from Skylon, is it possible to build SSTO in KSP based on Nixon-Agnew-Airforce requirement (budget, crossrange, and carrying capability)? EDIT: As someone pointed out, all our SSTO require Rapier and NTR. Can we still do SSTO with only the LF-O rockets/Standard Jets AND having a large cargo bay?

An SSTO without very high performance engines like Skylon is as practical as an flying aircraft carrier.
Its possible to build but it would be highly unpractical as it has to be massive in size had to push all sort of technology to the limit, probably be far more an hangar queen than the space shuttle.

Well, I imagine it would need at least a CRG-100 payload bay... TBH that's a good question: There are many good designs, including the DC-3, yet we ended up with the STS Shuttle.

I would like to see a DC-3 reach orbit. That would be some impressive flying!

I remember building a DC-3 alike in KSP once. It was vertical take-off and RAPIER-powered though. But it worked and was awesome. I'll try and recreate it soon just for the looks and because I'll need it for my eventual Laythe base.

Also, I think this thread should be moved since it's more about KSP than real world?

Yeah, it got moved here, but it's a post explicitly about recreating something in the game.

According to Elon Musk his space tanker at a ca. 3,000 metric ton gross mass, the upper stage for the Interplanetary Transport System, will be SSTO capable.
