What should I do first?

So I'm currently running a career mode in 1.0.5 ( I skipped 1.1 because of the buggy wheels ) and I'm currently at the stage where I'm attempting a Mun landing. I'm not that sure but I think can put the save into 1.2 by taking the save file and putting it in the saves folder. 1.2 does add new antenna parts, so it may mess up my career mode. Should I just finish the Mun landing first then move into 1.2 or move into 1.2 first? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks !

Well I am  new as well 2 months to KSP and i made mistakes and just started all over again, each time getting better, I learnt watching Scott Manley, and Marcos House Video's on you tube, but I never copied there designs, I have No idea about Delta V the game is enjoyable trial and error, I dont get bogged down trying all the Contracts , i play kinda like  nassa in the begining I have no intension of going to Duna even though contracts suggest i go, cos! i am still building Satalights, and space stations, Landing and swapping astronauts on Minmus, My main enjoyments comes from Docking with the KURRS add-on. Even in carrea mode you only do what contacts you want to do, and i have £4.000.0000 my plan now is to build Or download a Shuttle (columbia Style.) Oh and by the why 1.2 runs like a dream,

Enjoy...best game i ever bought. and i started with a rubber key ZX spectrum???

When you load your 1.0.5 save in 1.2 (or now 1.2.1), the Comm Net feature is turned off to make sure your won't hurt your career progress. You can turn Comm Net on in the difficulty settings after making sure all of your ongoing missions will be okay, or finish any that won't be okay. Either finishing your Mun landing or moving to 1.2.1 should be okay. If you're using any mods in 1.0.5, you'll want to make sure they're installed in your 1.2.1 version folder before loading your save.

I hope this helps.

My advice: First do your Mun landing (don't forget to post the mandatory picture of Jeb-on-the-Mun-next-to-a-flag-with-the-lander-in-the-background on the forum!).

Then once you either nailed the landing & posted the picture, or got tired of trying and want to do something else -> upgrade to 1.2.

As you can read above, you can probably continue your career in 1.2 without problems... but I would just reach that major milestone first (Mun or Bust!), and then do anything else.

I finalize all missions before upgrading. Every Kerbal should have his feet on the ground, in case a vessel does not survive the transfer between versions; this goes especially once you have a modded game.

There's also the simple case of creating a backup copy of your working directory before any update.

It really depends on how attached to that particular save you are. Did you spend a truly epic amount of time on it, or has it been a speed run?

Well, for me it is somewhere between that. Even though I am only at the Mun landing phase, I have spent about 2 months on that save.

So far what I see from your comments is for me to nail that Mun landing then go to 1.2.

@Mako so there's actually a feature to turn off Commnet? Then that's really good for me.

Yep, and its OFF by default if you are moving an older save to a newer version. Check the custom difficulty settings; you have an excellent amount of customization options available to you for Comm Net and most other aspects of KSP. You can even chose how much the various planets and moon occlude your radio signal, the signal strength multiplier of your ground stations, and even whether or not you have multiple ground-based relay stations or only the Space Center or none at all.

The only thing you should have to worry about is mods (if you use any).

One suggestion if you want to update before finishing your Mum mission: keep your 1.0.5 install available, and copy your save to a new 1.2.1 version in a separate folder. That way if something unforseen does occur you can keep going in 1.0.5 and move after you wrap up and important missions.
