I just installed KSP on my Ubuntu 16.10 from Steam and the game cannot complete the loading process, it always stops at some point on the loading screen.

Mods / Add-Ons: None

Steps to Replicate: Install KSP from Steam on Unbuntu 16.10 and launch it.

Result: Stuck on the loading screen at some point

Fixes/Workarounds:

Other Notes/Pictures/Log Files:

Hi @sal_vager, launching KSP.x86 raises an error, "error while loading shared libraries: libXcursor.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

However, launching KSP.x86_64 directly works perfectly! The loading process is completed and I am able to access the menu.

Thanks for your quick reply!

libxcursor1 isn't installed by default anymore? Anyway you can install it if you want from Synaptic, or the command line with:

sudo apt-get install libxcursor1

You can also make Steam open the 64bit version of KSP by default, right click KSP in the Steam client, click Properties, then Set Launch Options and put this in:

%command%_64

libxcursor1 is already the newest version (1:1.1.14-1), I tried installing the 32-bit version of the library (based on http://askubuntu.com/questions/461063/gaming-ravensword-libxcursor1-error):

sudo apt-get install libxcursor1:i386

sudo apt-get install libxrandr2:i386

After that KSP.x86 is working fine and doesn't get stuck on the loading screen.

About the Steam workaround, it did launch the 64bit version of KSP but got stuck on the loading screen.

As is standard for the switch from 32 bit to 64 bit that was done by everyone except intel several decades ago, there are 2 different versions of every library.

You don't have the 32 bit version of libxcursor installed. As you're successfully running the 64 bit version of KSP ignore it. It looks like  steam is trying to run the 32 bit version (because steam is a stupid pile of garbage, apparently), so just stick with what you're doing.

...unless you want to program X11 mouse games for old 32 bit 80486 machines for poor schools in India or something.
