Hi there all. So, those of you that have read my posts about career mode in the past will know that I didnt like it at all. However, I've been in my first proper career mode for a week or 2 now and love it, but I am (suprisingly so) very sad as I lost Valentina today.......

She was trying to deploy a satellite using the payload bays for the first time. There was a slight collision on deployment and well........the rest was horrifying.

Im sat here at my laptop, unable to help or revert and I really found it upsetting!! Ive read posts about people losing Kerbals before and, TBH, thought they were crazy....its just a game, yet today I feel their pain......what a mentaly brilliant game this is :) RIP Val.....Im gutted I failed you :(

Yeah, those clumsy green aliens tend to grow on you :) That's why some of us go out of our way to keep them safe. Unfortunately, sometimes stuff happens - finger slips, game hiccups or Kraken attacks without warning. Remember her, learn from this accident and keep pushing forward. Per aspera ad Astra.

Don't the original 4 respawn? I saw somewhere that after a while they appear again for hire. It was on the wiki somewhere.

Yes.

They do.

To be very honest. I don't like to "Kill" any. Even in sandbox. That's where most of the murdering take place.

I do a new save, go in the quicksave file and change their status from "Missing" or "Dead" to "Available" then reload.

Same here. Best choice.

Ya know, for how many people out there that treat their kerbals like ragdolls, they start to grow on you, and when we lose one it's like losing a friend.

Although...you can always play necromancer and go into the persistent.sfs and change their state=dead to state=available.

Even then, I'd rather build a memorial for them. It's just more dignified.

The feels in the game sometimes. Thank goodness Squad just makes them puff away. That being said...is there...a...realistic deaths mod..?

That'd be great. Sending a rescue mission for a... dead body so you can lay it to rest. ;.;

There was a mod for realistic part damage and deformation but it's probably not updated anymore.

To go from "Rescue" to "Recovery" isn't nice in real life.

I am playing here.

I don't want to play that.

Kerbals disapear in a tranquil zen like puff.. It is a happy time

Released from the bonds of a life without noses and eyelids.. Free from the spacesuit bonded to thier skin upon birth.. Thier home is the sky..space.. The land..freedom of the confines of a spacesuit even on thier homeworld

The dust eventually settles to form mountains.. Like the one just outside KSC, it speaks of the thousands lost in the space program.. Failed launches.. Train derailments, plane crashes and attacks of the kraken

In space, the connection between kerbal and kerbin persists, dust of the lost souls gathers as it orbits kerbin.  Eventually forming asteriods.. Which gravitate towards kerbin entering the atmosphere as asteriods to again return to thier homeworld

Its where ore comes from..

Oilant is green people!

Ore is the fossil fuel oil of the kerbal universe.. Indeed ships maybe powered by kerbals themselves.. Ancestors lost long ago whos dust turned to ore, refined and used as rocket fuel

so worry not..it is a time not for sadness and loss but just another rotation of the wheel of life for kerbalkind

Agreed, recovery missions would be grim and not for me however I do believe that other players may use a mod like that for moar realism.

I am at this very moment having a pint in honour of Val.

She will be missed....but there is work to be done.....
