How do I Launch into the correct plane of a target orbit?

Recommended Posts

I need to launch into a specific orbit around Kerbin but the visual target orbit is not displaying in the map screen. I checked another body where there is a contract available for a specific mission and the visual target orbit is correctly displaying for that contract... it's just not displaying for my current contract for some reason.

So I need to launch into this orbit but I am not sure when to launch into the plane of the orbit. I need to know what to look for.  I'm running Kerbal Engineer so I should have the resources to make a perfect launch without the help of a visual aid.

The Longitude of Ascending Node for the target orbit is 136.9 degrees. How do I launch into this plane?

thanks for any help

I have never had the target orbit not show on map screen. What's the axis? If it's really high it may be that you have to zoom out to see it.

I have no idea how to do it by the numbers. If you could see the orbit, you could time warp until you're at the right place and then look at KER to see if any of the number would have helped, but that's reverse engineering it.

The orbit Ap / Pe is around 500km... the target orbit is not showing up on the map. There has to be a way to do it by the numbers

But usually if all the numbers are valid, game should be able to render it. The fact that it disappears means there's something wrong with the parameter, so that even if you manage to launch something, it will probably never match the invalid parameters.

Better just post your save file and file a bug report or something. I remember there are some similar bugs fixed a while ago, but I don't know if that's a complex fix or not.

Woops, I answered over on the other thread. No, there is no way to do it by the numbers, because it depends on when time "t = 0" (ie. the epoch) is set to, and that is unknowable. You need to check any mods you are using, one by one, to see if they are blocking the orbit display. You may need to verify your gamefiles on Steam. You may just want to complete the contract using cheats, and move on.

eh... so many exceptions about incompatible mods. Then it's not a surprise if something throw a bad exception during map view rendering, simply causing the orbit rendering code not executed at all.

The suggestion is - remove all the incompatible mods and see what happens.
