ElJugador
Message in title. I just installed 0.16 and built and launched a rocket. I really want to try out EVA as well, but I can\'t get my ship to orbit so how?
Twinky827
I never even got my ship into orbit, xD. I just went straight up into spaceand did one. As for the EVA you can do one ANY time in a flight, even on takeoff. Hover over where the crew\'s faces are, and an option saying EVA should appear. leopardenthusiast
You can EVA anywhere, but just a word of warning, don\'t do it on the launch pad with your enormous rocket. Your kerbonaut MIGHT not grab the ladder and instead fall off the spacecraft to his death. As for orbit, well, I like to get to 70km and then go just above horizontal until my periapsis is above 70km. CanuckOverlord
This only applies if you have a rocket capable of making orbit, so take it with a grain of salt.[list type=decimal][li]Launch[/li][li]At 10km, tilt east a bit[/li][li]Burn until your apopthingy is where you want it[/li][li]Coast to apopthingy[/li][li]Burn at the horizon like a mad mo\'fo\' until your orbit is good enough[/li][li]???[/li][li]Profit[/li]
ElJugador
Okay, now I need a bit of help controlling the pack.. it would seem I drifted off the command module and now I\'m adrift about 170 meters from the spacecraft.. what should I do? Vanamonde
Hit R to activate the pack, move the camera until you\'re looking past your guy at the ship, and tap the W key. That will cause him to move toward the ship, but also to flail around in other directions, so just keep practicing with the keys to steer him in fits and starts toward the ship. (I don\'t remember which key does what because I re-mapped them, but they\'re listed as inputs you can alter on the settings screens.) Once close enough to the cabin door (or any ladders you have extended) a notice will pop up telling you you can tap the F key to grab onto the rungs. Then W up the ladder to the door, and F again to return to the cabin. Be prepared to panic a lot and think you\'re guy is lost forever. Actually, you\'d have to screw up pretty badly to run out of backpack fuel before he gets home again.
Bioman222
This is how us experts at BSMC do it:1. Launch2. When atmosphere gauge is all the way to the left, in pure black, cut throttle.3. Turn off SAS4. Tilt to 270 degrees on navball5. When at horizon (Border Between Brown and Blue) Reactivate SAS.6. Turn throttle back to full7. Press \'M\' to look at your orbit, watch until a periapsis of 70,000 m (70 km) or above appears.8. Cut throttle. You are in orbit!9.EVA10. Return to space ship11. Turn off SAS12. Turn to 90 degrees on navball13. Throttle up.14. Hit \'M\' to look at your navball, and wait until Periapsis is below 70,000 m 15. Deploy chutes.16. Wait until you have landed.17. Hit escape and end flight. You have sucessfully orbited and return!NOTE: BSMC\'s computers have low FPS, so our Altimeters are broken.
Vanamonde
Nevermind. I misread the post. :-[If the problem is not having a working altimeter, just hover the mouse over your ship on the map view and it will display height and speed.
closette
Not to mention the whole 'tilt over to 270 degrees heading' thing, which I\'ve seen a few people post that they do to get into orbit.There\'s a reason why KSC (in game and in Florida) are on the east coasts of their continents. Launching eastwards gives you a free boost in that direction due to the planet\'s rotation - 174.5 m/s in the case of Kerbin. In the game, click the 'Surface' indicator on the Navball while sitting on the launch pad and you\'ll see what your 'orbital' velocity is relative to Kerbin\'s center.Very few satellites are launched into a retrograde orbit (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_satellites_in_retrograde_orbit) since it would be an enormous waste of fuel to cancel out Earth\'s rotation.
