Hey all.

I have finished the mission but still have pics to load......And Imgur is giving me a hard time.

The Clallenge: Doing it Apollo style - Redux

The album: http://imgur.com/a/yd66G

The Rocket and the crew:

Cleared the tower

Skipping the middle stage and the launch escape tower ejection here. The 3rd stage finalize the orbit insertion.

Free return as planned with a Kerbin Periapsis of 30km:

Executed

And finalized (The last few meter per seconds were done with the RCS:

Waited to be ¾ of the way out of Kerbin SOI to avoid disturbing the return height with RCS during the transposition

With the Munar Module captured we have a go from mission control to adjust our Munar Periapsis (And lose the Free-Return).

Burn on the dark side of the Mun. Normal and expected as the mission was planned to be daytime and facing Kerbin

The altitude is right but not the Orbital inclination.

We want to land close to the equator.

I can see Camelot (Or in this case the Neil Armstrong Memorial)

Fuel is low. I decided to borrow from Paul to pay Peter and open the Crosflow valve in the stage separator.

We are here

S4ipn0t.png

All the tanks have been affected. After refilling the upper stage tanks we see how much was left bellow....Not much. This is as close to a failure as you can get.

Kerbonauts come out to play perform an EVA to work.

Pilot Trachelle checks out the rover

And Scientist Kasper checks out the Science Bay

That's as far I could load on Imgur before it froze on me...

I will try again.....Maybe find another way to upload pictures to the net.....IDK.

But Youtube cooperated. Here is the drive Roving to the Memorial and laying of the first science station.

Goto 3:55 if you get bored:rolleyes:

More to come.

Hello again.

Imgur seems to be overloaded.

I could load some but it stopped again. Hopefully it won't be too painful.

The science probes were released

eIALoYi.png

Then the rover

iA72afO.png

Now I know why they are called explosive bolts.

The probes were pickedup

The first station was set by the Monument

Eg5KScZ.png

Now we all know. The landing was 755 meters from the monument

More roving, more probes.

We are 10.2 km from the lander and the probes are 3 km apart

The signals check out

Trachelle: Hmmm. I can smell those Pop-Toasts.

Kasper: And Fried-Cheese-Doodads with Cherry-Fizz-Kola.

Now we wait for Kacie.

Let us try to finish this story then.

Trachelle and Kasper are climbing to get into a retrograde orbit (Like the Command Module) between 10 and 12 km.

Kacie and the CM are orbiting at 17km.

A0rEmRk.png

H694ToB.png

ZyYdLMU.png

A quick adjustment of the orbital plane. The CM has way more fuel but this is more fun. I say quick because we are gaining rapidly on the CM. In less than one orbit we will have overtaken it.

z3NAsG6.png

Oh luck. 0.1km at a cost of 11.5m/s

Lgjlg7p.png

The Liquid fuel ran out as the Munar Module was matching speed with the CM. That's another reason to have Monopropellant.

F27Mlag.png

f87lLHN.png

Done.

LFJiFN3.png

Crew and rocks transfer.

NyW8n6Y.png

Under radio guidance the MM is positioned away from the CM to avoid a chance collision while it is de-orbited.

YKMlFzw.png

Burn! Burn baby burn, baby burn.

W57KJvT.png

The Monopropellant was used to exhaustion.

One more.

Now we get to see what there is in the SIM. Scientific Instrument Module.

First the Sub satellite need to be ejected and left behind.

GtkTFQ0.png

iV0kLSt.png

The CM was then rotated to have the other side of the SIM face the sun.

bZRsH7p.png

Kacie's turn to do an EVA.

Not required by the challenge but the Apollo astronauts did it so ....So do my Kerbonauts.

One well placed burn to go home.

Goodbye SM

DCkxBVQ.png

TOUlorA.png

Is that the KSC?

usB1Gyt.png

I'd rather be luckier than good.

cJsbzPK.png

nwN5z4u.png

After the splashdown Jeb ran out to take a measurement.

58jYMv6.png

35.9 km from the KSC.

No kerbal were armed or lost while making this challenge.

Thank you for reading.
