Why does my resolution not 'stick?'

Recommended Posts

Well, I have pictures, but of course I cannot attach them.

Steps To Reproduce:

1) Start unmodded KSP.  (32 or 64 bit; doesn't matter)

2) Select "Settings."

3) Select "Graphics"

4) Note that the "Screen Resolution" is set to 2560x1600.

5) Change "Screen Resolution" to 3840x2160 (Which I could set it to before buying an nVidia GTX 1080--using the same monitor)

6) Select "Fullscreen"

7) Select "Apply"

8) Select "Accept"

9) Select "Settings"

10) Select "Graphics"

Observed Result:

The resolution hasn't changed; it's still showing up as 2560x1600.

Expected Result:

The resolution should change to 3840x2160 in fullscreen.

Notes:

As stated, although the graphics card is different (and far more powerful than the one I was using) the monitor is exactly the same.  I was playing on a laptop that could manage 3840x2160.  This is a designed-for-gaming desktop.  So I'm not understanding what's going on.

Hi @Slainte Maith, beats me why it's not working, this isn't a known issue.

A new install of KSP is supposed to start in a 1280x720 resolution window, nothing else unless the settings were changed, so try deleting the settings.cfg file in the KSP folder to reset KSP to the defaults.

If you're using Steam do a cache verification, in case Steam has corrupted the KSP files.

If it still doesn't behave you may want to check your Nvidia settings, as it sounds like forced resolution scaling, look for any global settings that might be doing it.

After that, see this thread.

We'll need your KSP.log, output_log.txt, dxdiag hardware info, (assuming Windows here).

You can upload those and your pics to dropbox or similar, ignore the "You need Pro" nonsense at dropbox, they do free accounts.

Is your native resolution set to 4k also? I can only run KSP on 3840x2160 if this is the case.

My monitor has a 1920x1080 resolution, but KSP should start in a 1280x720 window, is this not happening for you?

Are you using any scaling modes in your graphics cards software?

The engine will show resolutions it can detect, this may not happen with scaled resolutions, i.e. scaling a lower resolution up to 4k.

Using the Nvidia control panel I have to enable DSR (Dynamic super resolution) under "Manage 3D settings" then tick the 4.0x native resolution box and apply. You should then be able to change your native desktop res to 4k and changing it within kerbal should work.
