I am sorry... what???

All long range SSTO's NEED nuclear engines to gain more dV for a return mission (well, unless you want to have a big SSTO with an insanely low dV to mass ratio). Besides, my new SP-12 SSTO spaceplane has just enough dV to do a Munar return, using twin NERV's and 8 R.A.P.I.E.R's.

Oh, and hyperedit is now stock in the debug menu.

I agree. Although it's possible to go long range with an SSTO without LV-Ns, it's still insanely difficult to go anywhere other than Minmus without them on an SSTO. Maybe you can use nukes, but there should be a limit to how many you can use, so you can't rely on them for slowing down to land.

Maybe you can put my submission in "Munar" and "Local".

Nukes make a landing & return much easier, but it isn't hard to manage a Mun/Minmus/Duna orbital sightseeing tour on pure LFO.

Shave the passenger capacity down a smidge (i.e. replace one passenger cabin with another short Mk3 LFO tank) and a Mun/Minmus landing is doable; cut the passengers down to a minimum and it'd handle Duna as well.

  • 2 months later...

Entry in the Local Tourist category: https://kerbalx.com/Spricigo/Dolphin

CzJdN1B.jpg

Passengers: 4

Liquid Fuel: 564units = :funds:451.2

Oxidizer: 506units =:funds:91.08

Total Fuel Cost =:funds:542.28

Ticket: :funds:135.57

There can only be one: +25 points

Score 160.57

Edit: D'oh!  Obviously lower ticket means better score,  bonus for should be deducted.  110.57

PS: I suppose the monolith near KSC does not cont for EasterEgg bonus, Nor the Lander bonus apply.

suggestion: Before any pendant (like me) argues that TO means ToOrbit, change the bonus description: There can only be one: Make the entire trip without losing any part. 25 points.
