tater
If this launch had been a BFR/BFS, you'd already be on the boat into Sydney.

There's another Iridium launch NET Q3, so before October, possibly August. I know Mr. Steven is close to where they can work on it, but it seems like they'd iterate faster if it was on the East coast... Also, NET September: Quote A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch with Spaceflight’s SSO-A rideshare mission, a stack of satellites heading into sun-synchronous polar orbit. Numerous small payloads will be launched on this mission for nearly 50 government and commercial organizations from 16 countries, including the United States, Australia, Finland, Germany, Singapore and Thailand. Delayed from July. [June 4] And later, NET September from VAFB: Quote A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the SAOCOM 1A for CONAE, Argentina’s space agency. SAOCOM 1A is the first of two SAOCOM 1-series Earth observation satellites designed to provide radar imagery to help emergency responders and monitor the environment, including the collection of soil moisture measurements. So 3 more tries in the next 2.25 months. Edited July 25, 2018 by tater

Is trail and error really that new of a concept ?

Yet, his rockets blew up on reentry, not on asent, so he can deliver payload 96% of the time, and blow up his rockets trying to land. He failed 5 times, 3 falcon 1 missions, 1 during refueling, and 1 during asent.

If the alignment was right, it'd go to Mars. But it isn't.

No. Reaching Mars in any way was never the intention, the objective was to test the new Falcon Heavy, which was a near-complete success. The car was only there because they have to launch something and a car is more interesting than a lump on concrete. It was never supposed to reach Mars. That would actually have been a fail, since crashing an unsterilized thing into it could have bad consequences for future science.
