Self-righting lander

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I tried and tried to land a three man lander on the moon, but it kept bouncing and landing on it's side when it didn't outright blow up :P

SO!!! I made a lander, that if it ends up on it's side on some strange planet? Just press G! ^___^ It really works (under earth gravity at least, the ONE time I've landed this lander on the moon, I managed to make it down on my legs :P (barely)

This is the entire lander, in its upright state on the munar surface, you can see the second set of landing legs is attached to radial decouplers, because they're just dead weight on the way back up.

This is the lander taking off from the munar surface. those four small parachutes attached to the side of the command module are enough to land you down safely, even with the engine and big landing legs still attached. There used to be a few RCS tanks attached above the Advanced S.A.S. module, but they are jettisoned before touchdown, as they're just used to maneuver the HUGE rocket it takes to get a lander this big to the moon.

Here is a mockup I made in the spaceplane hangar, to test its self-righting ability

AND! last but not least, here is it righting itself on the runway, I don't know if this'd work under low-grav, but I'll let you know if it does!

Thanks MrPwner!

This was done to death from the day we got landing gear, nothing new. Got a kerbal alive to the mun for you though

I'm not on the forums a whole lot (as you can see by my post count) so I designed this system from scratch. :P New or not, it's useful, eh? hehehe

as for how to insert an image in a spoiler, it's this without the spaces.

To get an image a url, just upload it to a web image service like imgur.
