Parachute Help

Recommended Posts

I'm using Blender to make a parachute model but I'm having some issues:

When it's partially open it's all stretched. When it's fully open it's off to the side at 90° even though I'm going straight down. I asked CardboardBox (from the Kosmos team) about it and he said it had something to do with x-forms and pivot points. How can I fix this?

For the semi deployed problem, check [thread=5093]this[/thread]

For the fully open problem:

Apparently something somewhere goes wrong with converting the axes of the canopy object. Blender and KSP use a different up-down axis.

You can fix this by turning your canopy mesh 90 degrees on the X-axis in edit mode, then turning your canopy object -90 degrees on the X-axis in object mode. Make sure the origin of the object is at the start of the rope. The game will use it to animate the chute. I think that's what he meant with pivot points. And x-forms is for 3ds max I think.

That did it:

Thank you so much.

Edit:

Those aren't the best screenshots but I have a lot of horizontal velocity and it's working fine.
