Hello Everyone,

I am a scientists from the UK who was looking for something new to do with my evenings.

I think I was watching V-Sauce or something and this game was featured in D.O.N.G. (Do Online Now Guys).

I downloaded it but left it sitting on my PC for weeks, I was growing bored of FPS games, fed up of being annihilated on Civ V and done with racing round funny shaped tracks in fast cars. I saw this sitting there and decided to give it a go.

My only reaction was WOW! What a great game!

I am loving the demo and I am almost sure I should buy the real thing. So far I have built a few craft, got an orbit and once managed to slingshot myself past the moon and into deep space.

I am still struggling with all the new things (maths etc), even just using the demo I am almost overwhelmed.

All I want for the moment is to just prove to myself that this game is worth buying by learning how to get a rocket up there with enough fuel to learn how to handle orbits.

I am glad to be "on board" with this "program" (too many puns?), I am loving every minute but still have so much to learn! Hopefully once I finish reading the how to section I should be OK.

Oh also, almost forgot, Nice to meet all of you guys too :)

Forgot to mention...

In my spare time I play golf, hence the forum name. I also spend a lot of time on my computer playing various games but that is obvious from my opening post. I also like rugby league and spending time with my wife (which is not very much at the moment as we live in different cities due to work)

Hi long_iron and welcome to the KSP community :)

I'm sure the community manager will be along soon to give you his greeting too.

Also, KSP is definitely worth the small donation Squad are asking, I have never seen a game quite like this before.

As predicted, I am quite taken with this little gem of a game but boy being a scientist doesn't even help, I was hoping it would give me a special power or something. I keep having to use my orbital insertion stage to complete my ascent! I need to work that out soon! Still early days (day 3) so I am not worried :) I really want to try and work out how to do things myself but I feel I will give up soon and read a guide!

Off on holiday tomorrow so will probably purchase when I get back.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I am sure you will have me mastering the ascent in no time!

Using the orbit stage to finish the ascent is not a bad thing, it helps keep debris to a minimum, I usually try to jettison my launch stage before its perigee goes over 20km, then use my transfer stage to finish the orbit and get me to the Mun, and to deorbit me at the Mun as well :)

Well the thing that helped me out the most in the beginning was the knowledge of the Hohmann transfer maneuver. Hint: Apoapsis and Periapsis are your friends. Once you manage to get into orbit the universe is your oyster.
