Space module multiple docking problem

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I tried to assemble a branch modules (a long cylinder shape structure with docking ports at each end) in space and inter connecting them with universal docking module.

Attached video shows how they attached and you can observe the inter connection problem.

Two modules are not simultaneously connected and only first docking is done causing wobbling.

Any suggestions on solving this problem or It's simply not allowed to do this?

Thanks,

Welcome to the forums, @kyubot.

For the wobbling, a quick tap of timewarp will usually put a stop to it. It might begin again though, because the station is going to be unstable while that one side is unconnected.

For the ports themselves, as soon as you connected the first docking port, it all became one vessel. Which is the reason you can't connect the second port. It is not active because it does not register an active docking port of another vessel around it. I'm trying to think of an answer, but all I can think of is a simultaneous docking of both ports. Only one will technically be "docked", but they should both come together magnetically if done at the same moment. The other answer, of course, would be mods. With a game like this, if you've thought of something you need, a thousand other people have thought of it as well. And (with the high nerd-level of KSP), at least one of them is sure to be a programmer. :)

try turning off SAS / shutting down all reaction wheels and wait a while. the wobble may be the effect of several reaction wheels "figthing" each other.

when (if) the wobbling ends at some point, right click the outermost parts of your station and activate the autostruts - that should keep (more or less) fix the parts in their current position.

you may have to enable the option "advanced tweakables" in the settings for the "autostrut" option - i think it's off by default.

Thank you for answering my question.

I was asking because there are some video about building complex space station like this.

But many of them looks not realistic and I thought there would be a way to build similar thing in more realistic way.

My solution was sending bundle of cylinder shape modules and assemble them in the space using mini remote controllable space crafts.

Anyway, if that's the case, my solution would not work and I have back to the drawing board.

Thanks,

The short answer is, without mods, it can't be done.

You CAN spend a LOT of time futzing around and getting it looking like it's all hooked up but you will come back at some point and one end or the other will be disconnected again.

looks like the whole "ring" section in that video was actually launched in one piece. the only space assembly that takes place is docking the large premade sections to each other. and docking some minor stuff to various ports along the huge premade sections
