Both should work fine. Although the desktop will probably load faster thanks to the SSD. Both have enough CPU and RAM that it shouldn't matter unless you're doing something ridiculous (KSP Players are known for this). As for GPU, I'm running intel integrated graphics and it's fine, although it could be better.

That laptop is probably going to perform better for KSP, as it has a faster CPU. KSP won't benefit from a dual-CPU rig at all.
In practice, I expect the difference will be small.

My guess is that the xeon desktop workstation is the older of the two, though it's still going to be pretty quick - especially for multithreaded workloads and multitasking, with twice as many CPUs as the laptop. The Quadro should be nice for professional CAD and modelling too, but it's not really a gaming GPU.
Alternatively, it'd make a very decent home server, and probably supports nice things like ECC RAM and SAS, which the laptop will not.

Why does my workplace not give me nice SMP Xeon boxes?

The laptop is for sure much better in perfomance. If you look further, you can see the laptops CPU has a turbomode, this is activated when it's on power, the turbomode will turn of when the laptop is on it's battery.
The turbomode of a intel i7-4800MQ is 3,7ghz., this will make a (big) difference when launching crafts with more than ~100 parts. This CPU is better than the Intel Core i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHz, according to www.cpubenchmark.net
Because of the GTX 780m, you can also run the visual mods on KSP without any lag or problems.

My quess is that the PC has served for programs like Autodesk/CAD/Revit etc (as stated earlier).. Multicoring can be usefull there, but KSP is quitte singe-threating.

The loading time will be much quicker on the PC when you install KSP on the SSD.
