Question on KSP game length

Long enough to send sample return missions to Eeloo. Some longer in rescale games. That or an update, I kill saves with every new update and start over.

The Emiko Station career game is about 15 years old, in game time. I've been super careful not to time advance anything too much, so as to preserve the actual timeline of the story.

However, at times I've used a couple extra sandbox games, like the black and white chapters you mentioned. Those chapters are from "years long past" and wouldn't work in my career game because of all the KSC buildings being fully upgraded. I also did a small section in my last chapter at something called "Ground Zero", where I tried to simulate a quasi-nuclear blast site... sort of. That one I also set up a separate sandbox game to do the screenshots because of the time and extra modding involved to make it work.... would have totally screwed up the career timeline.

In real time, the Emiko career game is almost 2 years old, and has survived every update since 0.94.

I'm still running my 0.23.5 save from sometime in early 2015. It's on day 193 in Earth days, which would be. . .772 six hour Kerbin days.
