Updates to Three Different Copies of KSP

Ahh, I gotta explain this well... Something I’m not good at.

Hi Everyone, I’d like to ask a question about KSP (Sorry If this is in the wrong category, I’m new here) I heard in a Scott Manley Video (I think it was called ‘How to Mod in KSP’ or something like that) that you can copy KSP as many times as you want onto your computer. (It may have been old) You can pheraps have a Modded Copy, Vanilla Copy, and RSS Copy of the game. But if you have the Steam edition, and a new update for KSP has come out, and let’s say you click on your Vanilla copy and it says ‘update game’ or something, will that update all your copies of KSP or only your Vanilla one?

I hope you much more experienced players may be able to answer this, as I have only had 150hrs on the game.

Thanks,

RocketSimplicity (I am Sorry if this is a duplicate)

While I'm sure there's an easy way to set it up, one thing you need to consider is the mod updates.  When KSP itself updates, there's a good chance at least some of your mods will get broken.  It'd be best to just update vanilla, then, when each individual mod gets its update, add it in.

Does this mean that using the Steam edition, you are able to update only the copies you want to update?

That I don't know.  I have the GoG version, which doesn't use the client installer like Steam.  But with it, I have a 1.3.0 install and a 1.3.1 install, and each one of those has a few separate GameData folders for stock, full modded, KER only, etc.

Do you think I may have to disable this then?

The updates will not magically find your other installations and update them too. They would all need to be individually updated (if you want the update).

Thanks! That helps me a lot. You have my gratitude.
