Fuel Ducts in KIS&KAS, and Planetary Base

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm using the mods KIS, KAS, and Planetary Base systems to build a base on the Mun. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to work out fuel ducts with these mods? What I want to do is very simple actually, have a Kerbin connect a tube between a vessel that's landed on the base, and a tank that is on the base, and transfer resources between them, without the hassle of docking and what not.

Is this possible or am I just wishful thinking here?

Thanks

You will need two pipe connectors. Attach one to the base and one to the vessel (you'll probably need a tool for this, I forget which). Then, you can rightclick one of the connectors and select the option to link a pipe. You should now see a translucent pipe connected to your Kerbal. Walk to the other connector, rightclick it, and choose to complete the link.

You can now transfer resources between vessel and base. Just make sure that there are no crossfeed-blocking parts in between the pipe connectors and the source and/or destination tanks.

For this particular use I prefer to use Dmagic's EVA transfer.

The advantages are:

  • A nice UI, so you don't need to open the Kraken knows how many fuel tanks
  • Only need the additional part on one ship, not both.
  • Ships remains separated. No surprising phantom force.

Yes, it's the Connectors found near the top of the Utility tab.  They're relatively heavy so you may struggle to get off the ground with the jetpack if they're carrying two of them.  You can use either the wrench or the screwdriver to surface attach them to the vessels (and I think the other tools that come with the KIS extended bits).

Another alternative is part of Roverdude's MKS mods - whereby if you have a pioneer or logistics module in one of the base pieces, a pilot on board and the vessels within 150 metres of each other, you can use the logistics menu option to transfer resources without needing any pipes or suchlike.

A hosepipe is really, badly, missing from the stock game!

I searched for "connector" in the search bar for all the tabs, and there was no connector like in the picture you posted, there were just decouplers and struts etc.

Is it possible that I didn't install the mod correctly somehow? I've been attaching and detaching stuff left and right trying to build a Mun base, so it seems to me unlikely that that is the case.

It's called the "CC-R2 Connector Port" - in my game it's in both Utility and EVA item tabs.  You will need KAS installed as well as KIS I believe, and as Geonovast noted, you must have unlocked the relevant node in the tech tree.
