I'd consider that solved... if Seret comes back he can post his, but in the meantime, you can all puzzle over this one...

Left behind to guide the way or lead astray,

Symbols or patterns, colors or shades of grey,

In earth, stone, iron, on unmarked face,

I'm carved within or left without trace.

Once left I stay and endure as long as I may,

Sometimes till my host no longer sees new day.

I am naught, disregarded and ignored,

Save for those who know my lord;

Those that see and those that seek,

Those that find lofty mountain peak.

Whilst I endure I am overlookéd,

Yet gone you'll find the path crooked.

What am I?

Not quite. Problem being, the riddle implies that it is dependent on other things, whereas information can exist independently, as a thought. Not a bad guess, though. And information itself will not *quite* cover this one:

Once left I stay and endure as long as I may,

Sometimes till my host no longer sees new day.

Information doesn't quite fit that. Information will rarely endure for as long as it possibly can. It's often forgotten long before then.

As i said probably not the correct word. I meant (the) information that you can read on road signs for example. It tells you which direction you should take to arrive somewhere. Or the distance. Or nameplates on doors. Arrows pointing somewhere. A radiation sign on a vessel. Hazardwarnings. Traffic signs. Etc.

I just summorized it as information.

The second couplet here. What do you think it means?

I'll give you a hint. It is not simply referring explicitly to the first couplet. It has another meaning as well.

Yeah darn I didn't know that was a popular one I heard that one only once and it was in China :/

Hmm a path or road?

Oh wait a gravestone

None of the above.

The closest are probably "gravestone" and some of the things mentioned here:

These are the two lines that stump me, I'd go with trail marker but I don't know of that having a host or lord, It could be like a cave or mine shaft I guess but mountains peak doesn't seem to fit that. If gravestone was close I'd surmise with graveyard or tomb but both usually don't leave a crooked path. Maybe a name.

Ah, getting closer, I see. No dice yet, though.

Keep in mind the groupings of the lines.

Once left I stay and endure as long as I may,

Sometimes till my host no longer sees new day.

These go together, and definitely make more sense that way.

And these:

I am naught, disregarded and ignored,

Save for those who know my lord;

The second is a bit trickier, but the actual meaning is rather straightforward. It's just a matter of getting your head round it.

Last guess: word(s) or written words.

- a gravestone has words on it

- the bible says that those who know His word(s) will be with Him in heaven

- the bible is also called The word or His word

- words contain information

- written words can outlast the lifetime of the writer

- words are often disregarded and ignored

- words can be written on anything

- written words remain visible for as long as they're not erased (or burned etc.)

Nope :) I said gravestone was close, not that it had anything intrinsically to do with a gravestone.
Darn I thought I had it that time well then time for more guesses, maybe a church or faith, but I dont know what a grave would have to do with faith, it could be a book or religious text like Cardinal hinted to, but same problem.
Nope :)
Nuclear fission?

Edit: wait that was still the first riddle. This thread *exploded*!

Haha yeah.

Well, so far the gravestone guess is probably the closest, but it is (in a way) too specific. A gravestone won't cover all the conditions of the riddle, but it certainly covers some.

Magnetic rocks? The earth's core?

Somehow I'm thinking along the lines of magnets.

I'll go with magnetic rocks for now...

Or it could be milestones? those stone signposts....

Or even the moon?
