Hey! Just wondering if I can run KSP on my Lenovo Ideapad 310 Laptop.

These are my specs...

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6006u CPU @2.00GHz

Ram: 8GB

64 bit OS

Total Graphics Memory: 5072mb

Dedicated VRAM: 128                           - think this is the issue (can I change this higher?)

System video memory: 0mb

Shared system memory: 4048mb

Thank you.

Assuming that Core i3 has two cores, you should be barely okay.  You've got enough RAM, if you don't load too many mods; your VRAM won't make much difference with Intel graphics; you could even gain by cutting down your total graphics memory in favor of system RAM, assuming they're both coming out of the installed 8 GB.

Where you'll run into potential issues is thermal controls.  I have a Thinkpad T430, with Core i7-3520 (2 cores, 4 threads at 2.9 GHz nominal, turbo to 3.4 GHz), 8 GB RAM, and I can barely play the game because the CPU overheats and the system automatically throttles the clock as low as 350 MHz to let things cool.  This is great for not cooking my CPU, but not so good for trying to cut off a burn at a precise time (when the system clock speed can change without warning).

Generally, I'd say if you have two systems with identical specs, one desktop and the other laptop, the desktop will always win, because it's better cooled.  If the laptop is what you have, be sure the cooling system isn't clogged with lint, and go for it.  It'll run -- it just may slow down unexpectedly from time to time.

That's about or better than my system, and I play KSP just "fine".

Of course I have to play at low settings, and it takes 15 minutes to load, but I can do all the things!

Mine is currently jammed up with sawdust.   Gonna get to that this weekend.

  • 3 years later...

I got a lenovo ideapad s145 with 8 gb ram, and ksp runs perfectly, it takes a couple of minutes to load, but I don’t have any times when it goes slow, it runs perfectly with Eve and scatterer installed, I don’t do ridiculous part count missions, but for normal stuff it works perfectly. :)
