Skydiving and crashed planes: Mod recommendation?

Recommended Posts

I've been having fun exploring using the new personal parachutes to drop into odd locations or get up on peaks. However, at a minimum, I sacrifice a plane, and possibly another pilot.  In Mission Builder I suppose this is not so bad, but I'd really like to do this as part of regular gameplay without mass murder or wanton destruction of perfectly good aircraft.  Trying to get your Kerbal's chute deployed and then going back and trying to set the plane on a straight course all the time hoping it won't crash while you land your Kerbal is not really practical.

Can anyone recommend a Mod, if such a one exists, that would allow me to EVA, parachute down and yet continue to have the plane fly--preferably circling around--so I can go back to it after having landed my parachute?

Right now, the expense and GUILT are getting to me.

A mod is a better idea for sure, but you could always just continually switch between the parachutist and the plane (which needs a probe core or a second pilot) using the [ ] keys, and as long as they stay within 22.5km of each other they’ll be ok.

So you bail out, pop chute, switch to plane, steer back toward parachutist, switch to parachutist, steer your parachute....and repeat. If one is landed it is “safe” (won’t disappear at distances greater than 22.5km), so you can stay with the other one.

So you could actually bail out, pop chute, switch to plane and quickly dive and land, then switch back to parachutist and steer down to land on the plane haha

That works if the plan is to just descend, but I am trying to hit targets, so I usually need to slow the plane right down and then make sure my guy does not drift too far off target.  By the time I've got myself sorted, my plane may have stalled.  I've also noticed (in fact, I did a thread about it today) that parachute opening altitude seems to vary depending on what terrain you are over. So if you want to land on a mountain peak, you need to be right over it.

For example:

It's doable, but it would be great to be able to concentrate on one or the other.

Basically, the kerbal parachutist is a stage/probe. So think of it as wanting to recover both stages of a 2-stage launch.

I will definitely give that a try. Thanks!
