How can I get advanced SAS settings to not revert in sandbox?

Recommended Posts

Say I enable SAS and set an advanced function like radial-out.  If I tab to another close craft, then return, SAS will have reverted to stability assist.  How can I get my cores to keep their settings?  I've tested this on all cores.  Manned units do it too.  Suggestions?  Bug?

Before or after staging doesn't matter.  KSP 1.4.3 64bit, Win8.1.

It's been that way forever. SAS settings don't persist. I would argue that they can't, because only Normal, Anti-Normal, and Stability hold their directions over time. Every other setting moves. And that's the way that rails work, too. If you switch away from a craft so that it's on rails -- then it will hold exactly that orientation. Which is exactly what SAS stability mode does.

As an enhanced feature for users for the last few versions, if you remain in physics range of a vessel when you switch away from it, it will temporarily remember what SAS mode it's in until you switch focus back to it. But it will always revert to Stability mode once you refocus it.

This doesn't work in 1.3.1.   I have a ship that has a docking port in front of a heatshield, upon reentry I keep the SAS set to retrograde.   When that docking port explodes, it temporarily focus on the explosion, fixed in space, then jumps back to the vessel.   The SAS has reset to stability assist.   If I don't catch it, bad things can happen as retrograde is soon no longer in line with the ships attitude.

That's exactly what I said. The instant focus returns to the ship it will always reset to Stability mode, in all versions of the game.

It's only when the ship does not have focus, that it retains a memory for a little while of the previous SAS mode.

Yup, sorry, misread what you wrote.

Thanks for the resolution.  Still learning stuff after all this time.
