Part sorting VAB/SPH

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Any idea what would cause/how to fix my parts not sorting correctly with the normal built in part filters....

Like sorting by mass for instance (something I regularly do) my parts are not actually sorting by mass correctly i.e. they are out of order.

Specifically it seems to be the parts from Probes Plus, Kerbalized SpaceX, and OPT mostly.

Like for command pods the 7 ton Dragon SpaceX pods show up with 2 ton command parts....etc....

I did have the file extensions mod installed briefly, but uninstalled it....

Uninstalling and reinstalling the affected mods didn't seem to help, as the affected parts still continued to sort incorrectly after uninstalling and reinstalling them.

If there is a stock filter file somewhere that I could delete, and then download by verifying my installation via Steam....I could do that if someone could direct me to the data file that handles this situation. I dug around for a while but couldn't find anything specific in my game folders....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

Update:

I figured out what is happening, but I still don't know how to fix it.

Basically the part filters when sorting by mass are sorting the parts without including any fuel or other supplies governed by sliders in the part that are normally included with the part.

For example if the command pod weighs 1 ton empty, but also includes a ton of monopropellant instead of filtering the pod as weighing 2 tons total in the parts list, it is placing it on the list like it weighs 1 ton and ignoring the fuel that normally comes included.

This is driving me nuts....

I'm assuming some fuel switching mod must be doing this.

I know it isn't stock game related because I deleted all the KSP vanilla folders and basically reacquired the whole game via Steam again in an effort to fix this issue....

I know originally parts were sorted by total weight, fuel inclded, or solid rocket boosters wouldn't sort right.

What I can't figure out is why some parts from certain mods are affected and other parts are not affected.....

Update: Here is a link to a RAR file in my Dropbox containing the Output_Log and my last random crash dump. I don't really care about the random crash, as I don't get them often and I probably deleted and fixed a bunch of files since my last crash.... but I included it in case there is a clue.

I am hoping now that I included this information someone might actually help me, instead of continuing to ignore my post for days while I go crazy deleting and reinstalling mods and the game itself.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks for all the amazing help devs!

If you don't have a clue what determines part sorting in the VAB/SPH that's pretty sad seeing as you wrote the code for the game.

It would be swellzies if you answered any of the questions I asked like a month ago....

I included all the files you ask for.....and then waited patiently....

I can understand that it is frustrating to get no answer for a question, but instead of getting angry, you might want to try a different method to solve this issue.

The first method you tried (this thread) did'nt help you...that's sad but lets see what you can do now.
You already did a very important step: You found out the issue appears in a stock game and you can already nail it down to the mass of fuel beeing not included in the mass sorting feature of the editor. Furthermore, you found mods which got the same issue on their parts but also some mods which doesn't.

So, let me suggest a new method to you: Look up which mods are affected and which are not. Than, you can write to the mod creators (via PM or in their mod release thread), describe you problem like you did before, maybe even link to this thread, and ask them if there is something different on their parts so they are affected by this issue (or not affected). There is a chance that you will actually get an answer to this question and if you got one, the next step will be even more helpful:

Go to the KSP bugtracker website and report the issue. Describe the problem as good as possible, add all the informations you discovered by testing, underline that is happens in the stock game (i.e. with the SRBs), and so on. If you got an answer from the mod developers why this happens to some parts but not all of them, add the answer as an possible solution or at least as a hint where to look at. Keep an eye on the bug report, maybe a dev wants more informations.

This seems to be an issue (maybe it is intended for some reason) of the stock game which is too complexe to find a quick solution here in the forum and probably, there isn't even something anyone can do about it right now. Maybe there is a mod that can help (I really don't know) but I guess the best thing to do now is to continue looking for help in other places and not giving up because no one answered yet in this thread.

I wish you good luck :)

It's happening with stock parts too. Mostly C7 aerospace division.

I've given up on getting an answer. I'm not angry. It's just pathetic. I already wrote to several mod threads and no one had an answer there either.

Constant crashing and general unplayability of the game takes priority over not being able to sort any parts in any useable way.

One thing I learned long, long ago: Users are not qualified to decide what bugs programmers should be working on. This goes for complaining that they haven't fixed a particular bug, and also for deciding whether or not to report a bug.

Report the bug or they'll never fix it, or even know about it.

With that attitude no wonder you haven't recieved much help .... generally when one is asking for help one should try and not be a negative nancy

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
