Solar Panels broken from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4?

Recommended Posts

@TomesDW, as you have posted in the modded installs tech support sections, could you please provide the following information?:

  • Your operating system
  • The mods you have installed
  • How exactly the solar panels fail to work - Are they not extending? Are they extended but not generating power? Are they not tracking the sun's position?
  • Whether the problem applies to panels from the stock game, mods, or both
  • Whether the problem happened on an existing/new vessel/savegame

it doesn't do well with version changes

In this situation, kopernicus doesn't do anything in 1.4.4^^ Even though kopernicus displays a warning message if you try to run it on KSP 1.4.4., I place my bet on it as well...but there is a small chance that something else is happening here, so I guess we have to wait for a log file or at least a mod list.

Don't bother, it's a well known issue by now. Something changed in the deeps of the 1.4.4 engine, and it broke some mods (namely Kopernicus and Kerbal Konstruction). Something about a PQS thing.

The 1.4.5 release (happening right now!) is expected to fix this issue.

However, keep in mind that these mods are, really, intended to be used on 1.4.3 . It may or may not work fine on 1.4.5 - in a way or another, keep an eye on the announces from the mod's dev team.

I know...guess that's why it is called 'well know ' :D But there a several other people here with very stange things happening and not a signle mod installed. Like this dude:

I just don't want to say that kopernicus is definitely the reason for this issue. Most likely, but not definitely ;) That's why we should wait for some additional input from the OP.

This guy's problem is KSP unrelated. For sure. Something is corrupting the installment - perhaps the antivirus, perhaps the volume is corrupted, whatever, I don't know. What he's describing is similar to an issue I had on my Mac - usually, the Mac's file-system is case insensitive, but I reconfigured mine to be case sensitive as I do a lot of UNIX development on it. And some mods became broken due  this, as the code/cfg/whatever mistyped the case. On Windows and "normals" Macs this is not an issue, as the filesystem is case insensitive. But on Linux and "my" Mac, this bites.

However, it probably is. 1.4.4 broke Kopernicus, and the broken Kopernicus don't handle the Solar Panels (as it changes them to use his module, not the stock one). It happened to me before on the 1.4.0 times (I tried to use the 1.3.1 version, and the bug hunt lead me to this).
