Reputation Awareness

It would appear that the majority of the forum users are not using the reputation system. It would be good if we could get this going, as it would be more obvious to newcomers who to trust, rather then just seeing everybody at 1 gray or green bar. I suggest that all of you who get help from people in the forums, or find that somebody created a challenge that you like, +1 rep that person! It will make the community a better place.

To rep those folks, you just have to click the little star below an active post.

Meh, rep systems always turn into a popularity contest and don't usually have anything to do with someones competence or reliability.

My experience as well.

Also if a reputation system were to be meaningful, it would be necessary to be able to give negative reputation as well. Either way, I don't think a reputation system can work at all outside a relatively small, relatively close community.

The inability to leave negative comments, is based solely on stopping people from down repping someone just because of personal disagreements and issues. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. The rep system works, it's semi-useful, and stays just the way it is.

Why does that matter? What do we have on these forums that requires any level of trust? There is unlikely to ever be a classifieds system and this isn't a forum where people are going to ask for advice on weighty matters such as law or finance.

If they can ask those and even the questions of inter-family affairs on Minecraft forums (where the average age of users is around 13) I don't see why that wouldn't be happening on any other forum, even if prohibited by the rules.

Any way of making it more prominent or change the symbol to something like +1 or a thumbs up? People have been trained to look for those symbols by Facebook and Google, why not adopt either of those to make it more instinctive. If I see an awesome comment or video I'm looking for the +1 to click on.
