Reaction wheel perpetual spin

Is there a way to set reaction wheels to keep spinning until shutdown after they're detached from the main vehicle, like for instance if you were using then to drive a propeller?

Yes there is: like @PrvDancer85 mentions, you need to add a probe core so it can be controlled when detached. Then once detached, make sure SAS is off and set a trim for the axis you want the spin on. Eg. for a propeller with a probe core in the direction of the shaft, hold Alt-E or Alt-Q for a sustained spin.

Yes you want Firespitter for serious propeller planes, the probe ones are just for fun and doing it stock exploit then you can have an Kerbal on an ladder escape from eve
