Loading KSP from computer files

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have a save for KSP on 1.3.1 and want to load it from the File Explorer, but I do not know how. If I move it to the Desktop (screen with apps) it will still not work.

The way I am doing this is by clicking 'Launcher' inside the KSP directory.

Is there any other way to do this?

We may need more information. When you say a "Save on 1.3.1" do you mean an entire install of KSP for version 1.3.1? Or a save game that you or someone else made while playing 1.3.1?

If the former, just put it in its own directory (you should have several subdirectories and if you're missing anything critical it won't work) and run ksp_x64.exe from within there.

If the latter, then you may need a 1.3.1 install on which to run it. In that install, or your current install if you want to see if it'll work on the current version (it probably will) place it in your ksp folder in the saves folder, and make a new folder with the name of your save. So it'll be \<whatever your ksp folder is>\saves\1.3.1_save\persistent.sfs Finally, make a "ships" folder and within that folder make a VAB and a SPH folder, so you can build ships in the two buildings :)

More info. Ok.

This 1.3.1 save is used for Realism Overhaul, and I have a different save for 1.5.1 for stock gameplay. I'm trying to see if I can place this second save game somewhere so I can click and open it anytime. Like a shortcut. but whenever I click the 'Launcher' folder in the KSP directory, it shows an error instead of starting up in KSP 1.3.1.

Ah.

No you can't do that though it would be nice.

There used to be a mod that allowed this (Quick Start, maybe?) but it just always started that save when you started the game.

EDIT:

I looked it up and not only is it still active, I was credited for the idea. Which is crazy because I remember using it but not asking for it :D

The launcher has been stillborn for quite a while now - it's still included in the game files, but stopped working several versions ago. Why they keep adding it to the game files is a mystery - it just continues to confuse people.

Ignore the launcher, and start the game through the KSP_x64.exe file (or a shortcut pointing to it).

What you're trying to do won't work anyway. KSP requires any save to be located inside the <KSP>/saves/<savename> folder to load it. There is also no command line parameter to insta-load into one specific save. At least not in stock.
