Multimodal Engines

I see in the RAPIER config that multiModeEngine module seems to have only two options. Is it possible to have more than just two options? I'm trying to create an NTR that can drink practically anything (Water, Hydrogen, LiquidFuel, Oxidizer, Monopropellant, Methane, etc) and spit it out with realistic performance. Ideally I would be able to do this without making a bunch of new NTRs. I guess I could do multiple engine nodes and just go on honors system that users don't try to enable two modes at once, but that's not ideal. I have no plugin modding experience, so any solution that can't be done with config editing alone is essentially out of the question.

 Two tiny mods exist that meet your need. GT Industries and Kerbal Actuators. The former allows multi-mode modules other than, and including engines but I have not used it. The latter has no forum thread but I have used it and it works just fine, and is an alternative to FireSpitter for empowering propfan engines.
