KSP 1.5.1 Crashing between Load Screens

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here and just recently bought the Steam version of KSP with the Making History Expansion DLC. I have the latest update 1.5.1 and currently running into the game crashing while in loading screens from buildings to launch pad or back out or loading a quicksave, etc...My PC is running Windows 10 with the latest updates, GTX 970 with latest updates, 16GB memory DDR4 2133MHz, i7 5930K 3.5GHz 6 core processor etc...I recently updated my BIOS and audio for my ASUS X99-A/USB 3.1 motherboard. My temperatures are all stable and games such as PUBG, play just fine. This game runs smoothly however, it keeps crashing when trying to load to the launch pad or switching between buildings. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, including deleting the actual folder. I do not play with any mods and have not downloaded any previously.

I have seen some forums suggesting running 64bit due to memory limitations which I have verified I am running 64bit. I don't think it's a hardware or system issue. The game seems to have a problematic history. Just curious if anyone is having similar problems and had an easy fix.

I cannot see anything unusual in your logs either but I've noticed more crashes in KSP 1.5.1 as well, usually during loading screens. Also, this seem to happen more often if I play in window-mode and switch windows while the game is in a loading screen, especially in the inital loading screen.
So if you like to switch between windows as well, you may want to avoid it.

Thank you for the help. I do have Norton Antivirus running in the background and tried disabling it and also running the game in administrator mode. I was able to play longer than normal without a crash but wasn't trying to reproduce the problem. I'll report back if it continues to crash.

I play in full screen mode and don’t switch between windows. Are you suggesting playing in window mode?

Crashes on scene transitions were an old sign of running out of memory which shouldn't be happening in 64bit in your case. But I still have to aks: have you tried playing without the DLC?

I have not tried playing without the DLC pack. I’ll try it without the DLC and report back.

I have done a fresh reinstall of the game before. I uninstalled through the Steam and then went into the Steam common folder and deleted the file as well. Is there more that I may be missing when deleting the game? The game still crashes and have to force close the program to get the computer back.

Just to be 100% sure, when you say you deleted files you mean in c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\ ?

If not try that. If so... I don't know :(
