How do I run an experiment without a UI popping up?

ModuleScienceExperiment.DeployExperiment() triggers the user interface for running an experiment.  Is there a way to run the experiment and generate ScienceData without the UI?

I'd like to do so for the sake of MAS and a better IVA experience, but it's not obvious to me how I would go about that (it probably doesn't help that I don't have much experience with the Science system in KSP).
