How often do you use the Sentinel?

I usually make a "Mobile Scope" probe as one of my first probes in science saves, just in case an asteroid comes into a convenient spot for me. I usually do a "Launch Straight Up" profile for these given the massive fuel stack and SRB amounts I use early on, sometimes modified to add a wolfhoud or poodle engine on there, they can get 5-8km/s even after leaving Kerbin SOI. It usually comes with a science jr, goo, and the rest of the stuff given it'd be my first thing outside Kerbin SOI.

So, outside of contracts, how often do you guys use the scope?

Never play career basically. Its sometimes a useful decorative part though, but its not one of the pieces I use often. The paneling is sometimes kinda useful though.... makes a neat SM- like thing if you have three radially attached.

Moving to KSP Discussion, since this is really more about "what do players like" rather than a question about how to play the game.

Hardly ever, myself.

I think mainly because I don't really "do" asteroids.  For a very, very long time after I first started playing KSP in 0.23.5, the Klaw was buggy as heck and often resulted in a universe-destroying bug that crashed the game and caused all kinds of problems.  The PTSD from that trained me to avoid it like the plague... and without the Klaw, there's really no point in asteroids.  Heck, I even got in the habit of deliberately never upgrading the tracking station to level 3 just so it wouldn't clutter up the map with 'roids.

The horrible bugginess of the Klaw has long since been fixed now, quite a few KSP versions ago-- but by the time they finally got around to fixing it, my asteroid-avoidance habits had become kinda ingrained and so I just never got into them (which is a pity, since they're a neat feature).  Which means my motivation to use the telescope is less than it might otherwise be, so I end up just not using it, in practice.

That's just my personal quirk, no reflection on the feature itself.  ;)

See, that seems like even more reason to use the Sentinel.  Need to see those asteroids coming from far enough away that you can avoid them.

(I'm being facetious, but I did once detect an asteroid on a collision course with Kerbin.  To my disappointment, it didn't cause an extinction-level disaster when it impacted.)
