Recovering debris

Recommended Posts

I attached 1 mk12-drogue chute and 2 mk2-parachutes on "Kickback" SRB. The parachutes get activated on separation and are set to 'deploy when safe'.
If I switch focus on the booster, it lands in one piece, but if I keep focus on the main ship, they're gone (I don't see them on map).
Why is this happening and how can I fix it? I can't keep focus on the booster because I need to control the ship to make sure it gets into the orbit.

In stock, you can't really.  Anything outside the physics bubble (which is around the ship you're in focus on) will be auto-deleted if it's on a suborbital trajectory when it gets below a certain altitude.  Sometimes you can get away with it if your payload is going to a really high orbit, where you have time to switch to the booster and get it landed, then switch back to your upper stage and get your payload to orbit before it crashes down.

If you just care about recovering for funds, you'll want:

If you want to land it manually after you get your payload to orbit, you'll want:

Attaching a pod (e.g. OKTO) to each of the boosters gives more time to finish up orbit and switch to landing boosters.
I was getting debris auto-deleted when they got some distance from the vessel (getting out of before mentioned physics bubble I guess). It got better after attaching unmanned pod to each of those: debris are now named same as the name of the vessel and now disappear at 25km altitude when at Kerbin. They get landed fine when in focus, same for nearby landing debris (those which get inside physics bubble I guess).
